Tex-Edit Plus is a handy text editor that includes a built-in text reader! I keep a copy in my Apple menu and an alias on the desktop (for drag-and-drop operations). Tex-Edit Plus is fast, easy-to-use and requires little memory. It is particularly adept at formatting text which is transmitted to and from a BBS.
Tex-Edit Plus requires System version 7.0 or newer. If you wish to hear Tex-Edit Plus speak, you should install the AppleΓÇÖs Speech Manager in your Extensions folder. The program runs perfectly well without the Speech Manager.
The new Drag Manager is supported (if you have System 7.5 or AppleΓÇÖs Drag Manager extension). File size is only limited by available memory. Extended keyboard functions (Home, End, etc.), balloon help and undo are supported. Tex-Edit Plus is 32 bit clean, 68040 cache compatible, required Apple event aware and stationery aware. Tex-Edit Plus is even able to open PICT files and create SimpleText read-only files.
Shortcuts:
ΓÇó Triple-click to select a line.
ΓÇó Quadruple-click to select a paragraph.
ΓÇó Hold down option key to Open Any or Close All.
ΓÇó Option-left/right arrow will advance the cursor
one word at a time.
ΓÇó Option-shift-left/right arrow will extend the
selection one word at a time.
ΓÇó Command-left/right arrow will move the cursor
to the beginning/end of the line.
ΓÇó Command-shift-left/right arrow will extend the
selection to the beginning/end of the line.
ΓÇó Option-up/down arrow will move the insertion
marker to the beginning/end of the document.
ΓÇó Option-shift-up arrow will select all text up to
and including the current selection.
ΓÇó Option-shift-down arrow will select all text
from the current selection to the end of the file.
ΓÇó Option-pageup will move the insertion marker to
top of preceding screenful of text.
ΓÇó Option-pagedown will move the insertion marker
to bottom of next screenful of text.
ΓÇó Option-shift-pageup will select all text from end
of current selection to top of preceding page.
ΓÇó Option-shift-pagedown will select all text from
start of current selection to bottom of next page.
ΓÇó Shift-delete mimics the extended keyboardΓÇÖs
forward delete key.
ΓÇó Escape or command-period will cancel any dialog.
ΓÇó There are command key shortcuts for all other
dialog pushbuttons, based on the first letter in
the buttonΓÇÖs title.
I used the wonderful Metrowerks CodeWarriorΓäó compiler and would recommend it to any other Mac programmer.
